Use and maintenance of lead-acid power batteries

The correct use of lead-acid power batteries can ensure the safe and reliable power supply of the system, and the batteries can achieve the longest service life.

Pay special attention to the following matters when using lead-acid power batteries:

  1. The old and new batteries cannot be mixed! The internal resistances of the old and new batteries are different. When mixed, the single voltages of the old and new batteries are different, which is easy to accelerate the damage of the batteries.

  2. Prevent over-discharge of the battery. When the battery discharge reaches the rated capacity or the voltage of the 12V single battery has dropped to 10.8V, the discharge should be stopped immediately. (Note: The power supply system must be equipped with low voltage protection for the battery, the protection voltage is 23V, which can extend the service life of the battery).

  3. When the battery pack is used, especially when charging, there should be enough gap between the battery cells to dissipate heat. The larger the battery capacity, the larger the gap should be. There should be a gap of at least 1 cm between the battery and the battery.

  4. Choose suitable and high-quality charging equipment for charging, and no over-voltage or over-current charging. It is better that the charging environment temperature is not higher than 30℃. If the environment temperature is too high, a fan should be used to force heat dissipation during charging.

  5. After the battery pack is discharged and used, it should be charged within 24 hours. Every time you charge, you should fully charge the battery before using it. Long-term non-charging will cause sulfation of the inner plates of the battery. This damage is irreversible. In severe cases, the current will not be fully charged, the capacity will decrease, or even be completely scrapped.

  6. Properly maintain the battery

The output voltage and current of the charging equipment should be checked regularly with an accurate meter. Without professional guidance, do not adjust the current and voltage settings of the charging equipment to prevent misoperation.

The maintenance-free battery does not need to add acid and water to maintain, and it does not require maintenance and management. In order to ensure that the battery is used well, some necessary maintenance work needs to be done, such as:

6.1 When using or storing the battery, it is strictly forbidden to connect the positive and negative poles of the battery with conductive objects to cause a short circuit. The short-circuit current of the battery is very large, which can cause serious harm to the human body.

6.2 The surface of the battery should be kept clean and dry to prevent self-discharge or impurities from entering the battery.

6.3 The battery is charged to the factory, and usually the user can directly install it in the car. If it is left for a long time (more than 2 months), it should be recharged before use.

6.4 If the battery is not used for a long time, it should be fully charged before storage. If it is not used for more than 3 months, it should be recharged.

6.5 The battery should be stored in a ventilated, dry, acid-free environment, the temperature is not more than 35℃, and the relative humidity is not more than 75%.

6.6 If the battery packaging is accidentally wetted by water during storage or transportation, the outer packaging should be removed immediately to prevent the water-moistened packaging box from becoming a conductor, causing battery discharge or burning battery terminals.
